Perini Management Services, Inc., as implementing subsidiary of Tutor Perini Corporation, is the prime contractor for the structural stabilization of the prison hospital and temporary shoring installation in the barracks building. This is Perini’s second project for the National Park Service at historic Alcatraz Island, California. Project challenges included space constraints, access and delivery of supplies to the island location, construction while the park remained open to the public, and limitations on work hours as well as a requirement for noise and visual barriers due to the island’s status as a bird sanctuary. High winds and rains also impacted the crews’ ability to work on several occasions.
