Project Description

Perini Management Services was the prime contractor for relocation of the existing maintenance facilities within the Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area to a more sustainable location following damages caused by Hurricane Sandy. The work involved the renovation of two historic buildings to serve as the wood shop and an administration office, and new construction of an auto shop and a covered parking/storage structure. Extensive site work over seven acres included new grading and paving, concrete curbs and sidewalk, underground utilities, a new vehicle fueling station, site lighting, site fencing, and automatic vehicle gates. Excavations of the buildings and the site unearthed old artifacts at this historic site, requiring close coordination with the Park Service archeologist.
