Perini to provide Seismic Upgrades and Structural Stabilization of Alcatraz Prison Hospital for the NPS
July 23, 2020
Perini Management Services will be implementing a Tutor Perini contract for the National Park Service for work at historic Alcatraz Island, the once notorious former penitentiary located in San Francisco, California. The $8 million project involves removal and replacement of portions of an existing concrete wall with a new reinforced concrete wall, located between the cellhouse and the hospital wing, at the basement, 1st, and 2nd floor levels. The scope of work includes shoring of the existing structure, scaffolding, hazardous material abatement, concrete cutting, selective demolition, installation of micropiles, electrical work to support demolition and new work, and new finishes to match existing. The project also includes work in the Barracks Building, including bracing and shoring of structure, hazardous material abatement, selective demolition, removal and disposal of existing debris piles, and repair of specified wood columns, beams and joists. This is our second award at Alcatraz, as previously Perini successfully performed a Cellhouse restoration project for the NPS during 2015 through 2017.
